Nossie the sentiment is good, the logic is flawed. Empires come and go. 6 thousand years ago Egypt was arguably the most advanced society on the planet... people in Europe and North America were still using flint. The Chinese empire similarly flowered and waned, and will probably be the next big thing on our planet. Economic history shows that the global economy became interlinked since the mercantilism of the 16th century. The fact that westerners absorbed the technologies of those they came into contact with and then used gun powder to aggressively subjugate and colonise has a lot to do with the current distribution of wealth and poverty on the planet. blaming poor countries for their poverty in an a-historical fashion is the same as blaming a rape victim for being raped - it is criminalising the victim in the situation.
Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, South Africa all acted as points for deflating tension in England in particular and Europe in general. Be reminded that Great Britain was the Imperial superpower of the 19th Century, it could call on the wealth, resources and raw materials of all continents, mobilising their populations to labour.
Familial affinity meant that those countries with the right climate and where large numbers of Brits and Europeans could settle shared in the spoils of Imperialism and Colonialism - and they had the added advantage of cheap native labour as well as land and resources appropriated by force.
By circulating your article as widely as possible you are simply demeaning the cultures, religions and humanity of non-westerners.
Interestingly those countries who were most able to resist colonial domination, i.e. China and Japan, where people were able to retain their culture and identity are the ones who have most successfully recovered from the effects of British domination of the 19th Century.
I remind you that British soldiers kicked around the heads of those who dared oppose them, Luka Jantje, Bambatha etc.

Semi...thanks for the mail - do so again at any time.
Dusty...There is so much more to tell...looking forward to the first installment of yours!!
Vapour..thanks for taking the time to read and comment. It means a lot.
David...ditto. Her story is not unique, nor is it nearly as tragic as most but it's hers. That is MY heritage.

As for Mom, she's doing well. Hit the skids a bit today - missing her dogs who are at the kennel till she recovers sufficiently.

Thanks so much for all you kind wishes. I'll be back full-time in a week or so.

How cruel we human beings are, how afraid of music, art and literature... How resilient we are to rise against the odds, to dust off the dirt of our humiliation and destroy the symbols of oppression and exploitation and get on with our lives again.
